Iguanas on Mars!

November 13, 2013

The Cold Blooded News

NASA’s rover Curiosity has taken a photo of what at least one person takes to be a real iguana on Mars, basking in the glow of the red planet. The UFO Sightings Daily blog reported the discovery, noting that the “rock iguana” is so similar to an actual iguana that it cannot be discounted. I would like to believe that this is a cousin of the the Reptilia Droc 🙂

“To say it’s just a rock would be very closed minded to the evidence at hand,” Scott C. Waring, the blog’s founder, told the Huffington Post. “Not only does it have a body, but look closely and you will see its lower neck skin, its mouth line, nostril hole and even an open eye with a large brow over it.”

Though scientists say that there is no hard evidence that a Martian Iguana once searched the red planet for fruits and veggies, some scientists say that an ancient “gray Mars” had conditions that were once favorable for life.

For those who are interested in going on a herping expedition to the Red Planet, Mars One is currently conducting a global search for candidates for the first human mission to Mars in 2023.

Droc Long Sword

November 10, 2013

Long swordThe Reptilia warrior caste have a host of custom weapons in addition to their standard gear, depending on their preferred fighting style. Among these weapons is the long sword, which is a vibrating blade with the same incredible cutting power as the standard Syph blade, allowing is to slice through armor with ease.

The long sword extended blades allow for greater reach. The longer handle allows for stronger two handed strikes, although the blade is sometimes dual wielded.

Jump-pad

November 4, 2013

Jump pads are platforms used to transport people and cargo from ships down to the surface of planets by creating a micro hyperspace conduit.

A technology still in it’s infancy, line of sight is required between the ship and it’s destination. The recommended distance from ship to ground is a maximum of a hundred feet. Longer distances are possible, but require a jump-pad at both the sending and receiving point to create a stable conduit.

Vac-suit

November 2, 2013

The standard vac-suit is a light weight, pressurized suit for maneuvering in space, or other hazardous environments. Vac-suits are also used as protection against radiation and biological threats. Armored vac-suits are also available for military application.

Specs

Vac-suits are equipped with an oxygen recycler good for 3 hours of breathing. Advanced models can recycle air for up to 3 days, and are equipped with food and water and waste removal systems.

Magnetic boots and gloves for gripping in zero G. A utility belt with a spindle of high tensile line. Created from self-healing nano fabric, which can automatically repair small holes and tears. The helmet is made of liquid nano glass, a substance which can take a hardened shape like a helmet, as well as liquify and retract inside the collar seal of the suit when not in use.

Hunter Drone

October 25, 2013

The Hunter drone is a powerful war-bot created for search and destroy missions by the Reptilia Droc. While the Droc prefer not to put too much reliance on machines, they have insufficient numbers to guard the vast territory they have placed under conservation. This has led to a number of automated offensive and defensive weapons including the Hunter.

The Hunter silently seeks out targets and eliminates them with an array of weaponry. Interestingly the Droc have programed their machines with the same sense of honor and need for challenge that drives the warrior caste. If it encounters an unarmed opponent, it will attack with blades rather then firepower.

Specs

The Hunter is 18 feet long, and 7 feet tall when reared up in it’s attack formation. Heavily armored with a molecular engineered alloyed, specially designed to be strong but lightweight. When attacking it extends a cobra-like hood for intimidation. It also has four retractable arms built into the side of it’s torso. The larger, primary arms are for climbing, and combat, armed with a pair of plasma guns, and double pronged blades, similar to a Chameleon’s Scyph blade. The smaller secondary arms are designed for more subtle manipulation work like  accessing machinery. The Hunter also has a larger, double barrel plasma cannon on it’s back, based on a sprinter’s weapon.

The Hunter is also equipped with a double pronged blade on the end of it’s tail. As well as a pair of rail-guns, which use magnetic coils to launch a pair of high speed disc-blades capable of slicing walls and armor with ease.

The Hunter’s body is a long snake-like coil, allowing for a fast and silent serpentine locomotion. It’s slithering speed is increased by a series of anti-grav repulsors lining it’s segmented body. This allows the Hunter to stalk silently, and strike with lightning speed. The Hunter will retract it’s arms and hood for more streamline speed when stalking.

The Hunter is equipped with numerous scanners for tracking, and will share an uplink with smaller eel probes, to cover more ground during a hunt.

New York Comic Con 2013

October 16, 2013

The Cold Blooded News

As I mentioned in my last post, I will be occasionally posting news articles that are outside of the Reptilia Droc, but still pertain to reptiles, science fiction, or comics. I may be doing a little more or that on my facebook page in the future, as I am wary of Facebook’s new “we own anything you post” rule, and am having second thoughts about posting my artwork there in the future.

But I digress. Today I wanted to share the experience at  New York Comic Con this past weekend. It was a lot of fun, and a lot of exercise working my way around the absolutely enormous convention center. It was my first time, and a huge leap to the relatively modest Philadelphia Wizard World that I’m used. I’ve never been to San Diego Comic Con, so this biggest event I have as a frame of reference.

I didn’t get to too many pannels as the crowds to get in we’re pretty thick, and I was only there Saturday, this trip being sort of a test run. But I enjoyed walking around the show room, and seeing all the wild cosplays.

Looking forward to going back next year. Hopefully within the next year or 2 the Droc will be ready and I can get a spot in Artist Alley.

Reptiland 2013

October 1, 2013

The Cold Blooded News

Here’s a few photos from my recent trip to Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland, located in Allenwood Pa (http://reptiland.com/).

A fun, modest-sized zoo focusing primarily on modern day reptiles, along with animatronic dinosaurs, and a Butterfly garden for variety. I like to visit this park periodically anyway, to show my support of reptiles. But this visit was specifically to see the park’s recent addition, Island Giants, the Komodo Dragon display.

Enjoy the picture’s, and I highly recommend stopping if your in the area.

Augmented Reality – AR

September 10, 2013

Augmented Reality, comonly known as AR, is when a Neural Connection chip is used to overlay information and images ontop of real-world senses.

The most common uses are audio and visual.  Sounds will play in the user’s head and computer-generated graphics will appear as translucent images, icons, or text in the user’s field of vision. Icons, windows and other interaction prompts can be layered, stacked, toggled, hidden, or shifted out of the way if necessary to interact with the physical world. Information viewed like this is known as an AR display.

The NC can also work in conjuncture with SimSpace programs to simulate other sensory information such as touch, taste, and smell, creating full immersion. This can not be done over WiFi, the user’s NC chip would need to be physically linked up to specialized machines to accomplish this.

Sprinter

August 20, 2013

Species: Reptilia Sprinter
Class: Alpha
Affiliation: The Reptilia Droc Empire
Occupation: Warrior caste

Sprinters are one of three sub species making up the fearsome Reptilia Warrior caste. Sprinters are used to dominated the battlefield on the ground, along with the Chameleons and the second of two species used in ground combat. The other being the chameleons.

Physical Characteristic:
While Chameleons use their camouflage to sneak up on unsuspecting prey, Sprinters uses the strength and speed of their bulkier, four-legged bodies to charge in and pounce on targets before they can react. They are capable of running up to 50 miles per hour over a short distance. As well as leaping great distances and walking on their hind legs when necessary.

Other physical characteristics include bone-crushing jaws, razor-sharp claws, thick scaly hide, and a long muscular tail. It’s striking black and orange coloration is warning sign that the Sprinter packs a powerful venom that in Betas can causes paralysis  within seconds, and death shortly after. Alpha species prove more resilient to the venom, but can still cause severe disorientation. Sprinter venom also becomes acidic when exposed to air, allowing them to spit at oppents with deadly results.
